How to Price Your VA Services Without Underselling Yourself

Pricing is one of the hardest parts of being a virtual assistant. Charge too little and you burn out. Charge too much too soon and you struggle to get clients. Here is a simple framework to get it right.

Know Your Minimum

Before you think about what the market charges, figure out what you need to earn to cover your expenses, save money, and live comfortably. This is your floor. Never go below it, no matter what.

Understand What You Are Worth

Your price should reflect the value you deliver, not just the hours you put in. If your social media management brings a client five new customers worth $500 each, your service is worth far more than $20 an hour.

Research the Market

Look at what other VAs with similar experience and skills are charging. Do not copy their prices, but use them as a reference point. If you are just starting out, you might start slightly lower and raise your rates as you gain experience and testimonials.

Package Your Services

Hourly rates put the focus on time. Packages put the focus on outcomes. Instead of charging per hour, offer a monthly package — for example, social media management for 3 platforms including content creation, scheduling, and engagement for a flat monthly fee.

Raise Your Rates

Many VAs stay at their starter rate for years because they are afraid to lose clients. The truth is, raising your rates is a sign of growth — and good clients will respect it. Give 30 days notice and explain the value they have been receiving.

Final Thought

You are not just selling your time. You are selling your skills, your reliability, your attention to detail, and your commitment to your client's success. Price accordingly.
